I traveled to Birmingham to Chris Mann. He seemed very good at what he does and is a nice person to deal with. Found the whole experience of getting there really difficult and frightening (and hospital itself a bit disorganised/scatty) but I suppose it must be worth it! Laya paid for the surgery though I had to discuss payment with them on the day before the surgery so in hindsight, I’d say these things are very important to organise well in advance. It is hard to know what to do after the surgery too as when you go home, you are left on your own. Not the consultant’s fault, just that I was in a different country. I had one follow up consultation on the phone which was reassuring but not like they can really check much over the phone. Glad nothing went wrong though (that I know of) as not sure how that would have worked out! Bring someone supportive with you if you do decide to go as it seems easy (handy flight direct to Birmingham and hospital easy to get to), but took a lot out of me. Maybe, on top of the surgery, it’s just the feeling that I was going abroad for something that I should be getting at home in my own country!! It was definitely good to know that Chris Mann had good reports and had a lot of practice in excision and in dealing with endometriosis generally. Wish we had someone like that here or someone even part time here.
