Many thanks @aeriela for the reply. It blows my mind that we have to battle so much to get a good standard of care, but I am not prepared to give up without a fight. I also know that at least 2 Irish women under the care of PBS have had their surgery covered by VHI.
I confirmed with VHI that Brexit doesn’t impact cover – you’re covered up to the amount on your plan regardless of where you get the treatment (so could even get treatment in the US if they approve it).
I’m going to revisit my Irish Consultant who did my first lap as he pretty much said at the time that the endo was too severe and he wasn’t going to touch it. I’m hoping to appeal to his better nature and get him to refer me.
I’m pulling together my fact pack on the benefits of Excision. The CEC in Atlanta have a page with great quotes and references to studies and Kathleen also provided a link to a study on another thread here. Thankfully(!) I have Stage IV with endometriomas, which makes a better case for excision over ablation.
One thing I’m still thinking through is how to show that there are no consultants in Ireland performing excision exclusively – which to my knowledge is the case. Hoping with a referral from my Irish consultant I won’t need this, but VHI may look for evidence that another Irish surgeon cannot do this. @kathleenking any thoughts on this?
On CBD – I heard they have got quite strict and now expect you to be on a waiting list before they will cover. With VHI cover, I wouldn’t really be on a waiting list for a lap.
Still open to all other suggestions and experiences of others and I will commit to sharing on here as I progress for the benefit of future reference.
