I got VHI approval for my surgery. However they did not agree that the treatment wasn’t available here so they only covered me for surgery up to the cost they would pay over here if I was to have the surgery here. Because I was having a hysterectomy at the same time the budget was generous so it did cover everything but I’m not sure if excision was the only thing I was having done whether they would have covered the whole bill. The excision bill alone was £5,500.

My consultant did write on the form that I needed a BGSE surgeon and that we didn’t have those centres here.

I don’t know what the situation is with brexit. I’m in a similar situation now in that it looks like I’ll be going to London again for surgery (I have endo back) and I will probably be looking for approval again in the next few months

VHI will give a decision after 10 days but you have to pay the bill yourself and claim it back off them.
