Apologies for the delay in getting back to you. I had actually started to reply but ended up having an eventful week (had to bring my daughter to A&E on Tuesday).
I am so sorry you are in so much pain and discomfort. It is very overwhelming when you receive an initial diagnosis on top of the stress of dealing with consultants and trying to make the right/best decision for your own treatment.
I remember feeling completely lost.
Boos felt my case was too complex for surgery Ireland and he was just going by an MRI result. He still had a question mark over whether or not it was endometriosis for sure.
I didn’t have any endometriomas but had nodules behind my cervix pulling to or adjoining rectum. He did some rectal shaving. PBS classified it as severe rectovaginal endometriosis which had been there for years (pouch of Douglas area, uterosacral ligaments and pelvic sidewalls).
For me, the hour long consultation with PBS, in addition to a detailed 45 mins ultrasound consultation carried out prior to that was worth a flight alone to London. It verified everything and gave great info as to where all my endo was in order to plan for surgery. The Endo was far more extensive then what had appeared on the MRI.
It sounds like you need the best expertise possible. After reading, researching and talking to a few other women who had been through multiple surgeries in Ireland, I made the decision to go to London.
It was daunting and I really feel for you right now but once the ball was rolling things fell into place. The biggest stress for me in the end was getting VHI approval and the anxiety around not being able to afford to go otherwise.
When it came to the actual day of surgery I was excited and looking forward to it as was hopeful for a better quality of life with less pain and a number of symptoms alleviated.
PBS is contactable directly via email (email@example.com) and is extremely efficient in responding. I initially sent him my MRI results with a detailed email outlining my symptoms and history. He responded within a few hours confirming that I more than likely had deeply infiltrating endo. If you just wanted to reach out to him for some initial advice. He helped me so much and it was great to be under a consultant who deals with complex cases on a daily/weekly basis. I completely trusted/trust him.
Sorry for rambling on a bit. Happy to chat if you have any more questions. Sending love to you, Edel xx
