Hello there, do you mean Dr David McMurray? I saw this Dr based on a referral from my GP. Dr McMurray based on my experience is an absolute gentleman and he is the reason I got my diagnosis, which I am very grateful for. Dr McMurray used diathermy to treat my endometriosis that he found during my diagnostic laparoscopy – which turned into a surgical one! He was excellent during post op consults and listened to me. Based on my own experience, I wasn’t satisfied with the surgical technique he used in my case as it did not give me long term relief from the symptoms of endo, my symptoms returned after about a year and have increased thereafter. From what I have researched, there doesn’t appear to be any surgeons in Ireland who perform excision only. It’s worth doing your own research and maybe going back and posing questions to your Cork gynae why they are recommending Dr McMurray and being in a position to say what kind of treatment you are looking for. I found it easier to discuss options when I knew myself what techniques had the best success rates long term, and back them up by quoting research. There is information available online (albeit limited) about success rates for the different types of surgery for endo, this info comes from medical journals and some info can be googled and free to access. In my case, surgery was what could benefit me. From what I have gathered, excision surgery is the best treatment available (and excision only even better, not mixed with ablation/diathermy) but it is not available in Ireland. Also, general OB/gynaecologists dont have the same surgical experience as endometriosis specialists, they dont have the time! Hope this helps.
