Hi Emma
It is essential for your ovarian health that you find someone who can excise the cysts correctly, in addition, the pain and pressure you describe may be attributed to adenomyosis and this should be investigated.
Removing ovarian cysts can cause damage to the ovary and the ovarian reserve, reducing fertility and increasing the risk of ovarian failure. There is also the risk of developing chronic pain.
I would highly recommend reading http://www.endometriosis.ie/questions-for-your-surgeon prior to any appointment to plan surgery.
If you have private insurance, it would be worth looking at someone who has skill and experience in excising endometriosis and endometrioma. From your description, you may have severe endometriosis, this requires delicate management and a skilled surgeon. Look for someone who has performed 100s of this type of surgery annually. Dr Aoife O’Neill would be one of the more experienced in Ireland, Dr Waseeem Kamran, Dr Hugh O’Connnor and then outside of Ireland – Mr Chris Mann, Mr Peter Barton Smith, Prof Keckstein, Mr Shaheen Khazali, Prof Watiez, Prof Malzoni etc.
This is not the type of surgery that should be entrusted to someone who does not have a proven record. I am unaware of the skill and experience of the doctor you mentioned, but given the questions in the article I linked abouve she should be able to confirm her skill and experience level for you.
