Dr Zsuzsanna Kovács has joined GlycoScience team in National Institute for Bioprocessing Research and Training (NIBRT), under supervision of Dr Radka Fahey (Saldova) as a Postdoctoral Researcher on awarded EU Marie Currie Individual Researcher Fellowship on identification of non-invasive clinical markers for diagnosis of endometriosis (GLYCOMENDO). During this early phase of the project, an efficient sampling system was organized and Zsuzsanna regularly visits Merrion Fertility Clinic and St Michael’s Hospital where she collects blood, urine and vaginal swab samples and takes part on surgeries to help her gain complex insights into the pathology of endometriosis aiding to her valuable clinical experience.

Zsuzsanna has developed new methods for purification of urine proteins and she is working on optimization of sugar characterization methods for carbohydrate
isolated from these proteins. Urine is collected in a painless manner, and Zsuzsanna is using it for identification of new biomarkers coming from these isolated special proteins.

This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and Innovation programme under grant agreement No 843862, H2020-MSCA-IF-2018.

  • Hi Dr Zsuzsanna, I am a 3rd year undergrad human health and disease student, with a keen interest in endometriosis and the pursuit of non-invasive biomarkers for faster diagnosis and better prognosis for women suffering from endo. Any chance I get, I have discussed endometriosis for presentations or literature reviews. I am currently drafting a mock research proposal on the potential use of extra cellular lncRNA as a potential bio marker for endometriosis.
I am deeply interested in this field and I would love to be apart of your research if at all possible.
    Kind regards, Cliodhna Heuston.
